Regarding this point, I wanted to analyse the type of scale I used, which in this section is the E minor pentatonic. I play it according to what in my electric bass handbook (Bassista contemporaneo) I have named forma obliqua (oblique shape).

This shape divides the keyboard into two fragments that are highlighted by the square brackets below the notes, in addition to the open E which is the harmonic basis of the song. The lower octave fragment is always played with T, the higher one partly with T and partly with P.

This is an useful exercise to practise.

In this point it is interesting to note how the hammer-on is combined to the open strings and the E minor pentatonic. And this is an exercise to develop this point.

Regarding the scales, I find it interesting to switch from the E minor pentatonic to the E dorian mode, which can be considered as a development of the pentatonic appropriate to create melodies. In point 5 (Figure 10), the mode is developed by playing on the 1st position and using the open strings as much as possible.

In this position, the fourth and third strings are played with T, the second sometimes with T and sometimes with P, while the first string only with P because it is too thin to sound good with the thumb.

In this section I use the hammer-on to the 10th double stops. There is some rhythmic complexity involved here, so the first thing to learn is how to use the 10ths in the E dorian scale.

This is another exercise: practise this scale in order to learn to play the appropriate notes with T and PV.

Then this is an easy example of how to use the 10ths in a groove.
